The Pride Pilot - a 2SLGBTQIA+ Men's Health Event
led by Chuck Dauphinee

Saturday October 16th, 2021
10:00am-1:00pm
Did you have to hide your true self to survive this world? Were you confused as to why your instinctual behaviours as a child were shunned by society? The closet became the safe place for most of us, but it wasn’t always the easiest to hide completely. Once you came out of hiding, did you fully return to who you were before you assimilated with society or did you forget who you were before you tried to fit in? Sometimes coming out as your authentic self isn't as easy as one may think.
As a young boy I had to grow up quickly and assimilate to social norms to survive. I pushed myself to be as masculine as I could in hopes to convert myself into a straight man. However, my deepest instincts did not dissipate. I lost who I was just to fit in but now as I reconnect with my inner child, I have been experiencing true growth. Not only have I been feeling happier in general, my relationships have been getting richer with more meaning.
The 2SLGBTQIA+ community can feel fragmented and lonely to some. It is fast paced and competitive at times. Most of us are still struggling with aligning to our true essence but the need for community and friendships is strong. Historically and presently 2SLGBTQIA+ men have mostly relied on secret conversations, cruising areas and gay bars to connect with each other - this was mainly for physical connection. Do you crave a deeper link to your community? I feel a different type of gathering is very important at this time.
I created The Pride Pilot to share how I have connected to my physical body as well as how I have connected to my inner child. This program is for 2SLGBTQIA+ men who are seeking a deep sense of belonging and for those who wish to remember their true essence. A lovely half day workshop will create a safe and inclusive environment for you to explore and relate to others. It is for those who want to explore and play, to return to who they were before they were told not to act in a certain fashion. This will be an out of the box experience to help with your confidence and return to your playful self. Rather than putting on an act, let down your walls and work on being authentic and vulnerable. Let's not be negative to ourselves or to our community anymore. Come join The Pride Pilot!
Program Overview
The program is divided into two modules held at the beautiful avifauna health studio in Canning Nova Scotia. The first module with be a very gentle physical body connection creating awareness and appreciation for your own anatomy. This activation will help with your physical alignment and make you more comfortable in your own skin. The purpose is to ground yourself and appreciate your physical structure. The second module will dive deeper into your psyche. The purpose is to awaken and reintroduce yourself to your inner child. This will be done with deep meditations, journaling and connecting with nature.
Instructor Bio
Dr. Chuck Dauphinee was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and was always interested in mechanics and how things worked. This interest led him to excel in physics and math. Chuck eventually completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering. With a new understanding of the human body as a “machine”, Chuck then continued his journey to understand the best ways to “bullet proof” his own body through becoming a personal trainer. His passion for preserving the body’s soft tissues and joints led him to graduate from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and he now feels more like a “body engineer”. While Chuck was pursuing his science-based education, he also became a leader in his own community. From working as a chiropractor in high level sports in the city he saw a need for more diversity in sports. He founded the first 2SLGBTQIA+ Hockey group in Atlantic Canada (the Halifax Mussels) and was appointed as a member of the Hockey Nova Scotia Diversity and Inclusivity Task Force to create a safer space for athletes in sport. With his leadership roles in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community he felt a need to learn more about being an effective leader. In turn, Chuck recently completed the Embodied Leadership & Autopoetic Facilitator Certification Training with Anne Bérubé Ph.D. which has given him the tools to help people beyond just their physical bodies. Chuck is excited to bring a transformational event such as The Pride Pilot to Nova Scotia with special guests Dr. Anne Bérubé, Nancy “Dancing Light” Sherwood and physiotherapist Jessica Bergevin. Each one of these women have helped Chuck be more authentically himself and he is excited for the participants to learn from them and become more self-aware.
